Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART

With only 10 ever manufactured especially for American Ferrari dealer Luigi Chinetti, the Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART is now one of the most valuable classic Ferraris around. So much so that in 2005 one was sold at auction for $3.96 million.

Chinetti apparently not satisfied with the standard 275 GTB/4 asked Sergio Scaglietti and Enzo Ferrari to build him some Spider versions of the 275 GTB/4, for the US market which he bought for approximately $8,000 each.

Made between 1966 to 1968 and based on the 275 GTB/4 the NART Spider shared the same 3.3 liter 4-cam V12 power plant, as the GTS and GTB models. Producing 300bhp and boasting six weber carbs the 275 was regarded as one of the last hand built V12 Ferraris and admired by many for its unmistakable 1960’s styling.

Like all iconic cars, the GTB/4 N.A.R.T. (N.A.R.T. stood for Chinetti’s North American Racing Team.) was forever immortalized in Hollywood movie history when it was driven by Faye Dunaway in The Thomas Crown Affair. Steve McQueen liked the car so much he ordered one, eventually taking delivery of a converted GTB/4 in San Francisco when he was on set filming Bullitt.

A Ferrari rarely comes with better credentials than a favorite of the ‘King of Cool’, Steve McQueen. Chassis no. 10709 is soon to be auctioned so if you’re feeling like you have a few million bucks to spare, register to bid with RM Auctions here
