1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS

This 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS was made in the very last year that the manufacturer produced its 246 Spider Model. It was also Ferrari’s very first road worthy sports car designed for the average consumer, utilizing a mid-engine, 190 HP, 2418 CC V-6 with a manual 5 speed rear axle transmission. The front and rear disc brakes and A-arm suspension systems with coil springs were also a new, extra touch that was ahead of its time for 1974.

Enzo Ferrari was driving for Alfa Romeo when his son, Alfredo “Dino” Ferrari was born. Immediately after his birth, Enzo stopped racing to ensure that his son had a living father to grow up with and Dino was groomed almost from birth to eventually take over the Ferrari Corporation. Enzo made sure that Dino received the best education that money could buy, schooling him in both engineering and economics.

But Dino also suffered from muscular dystrophy, which was not properly diagnosed back in the 1930’s. Always in less than perfect health, Dino always had a love for race car driving just like his father, even as a very young child. The 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS was Enzo’s tribute to his loving son, although Dino never lived to see the final creation. Dino died from his disease at the young age of only 24 in 1956.
