Many people in less educated circles will always consider a race win at Monte Carlo is the biggest test of a driver, but there is one street track where any race driver will need some serious cojones and full commitment to get to the top step of the podium.

The place itself is none other than the Circuito de Guia, based in the Portuguese colony of Macau. With no run off areas, no gravel traps and TecPro barriers to speak of, it pushes a driver to the absolute limit.

It also leaves no room for the slightest of mistakes around the 3.8 mile layout, with iconic corners such as Lisboa, Mandarin, the Solitude Esses, Fisherman’s Bend. It also has the sole honour of having the only corner that has a constant yellow flag zone: The Melco hairpin.

For those that make the annual pilgrimage, they are treated to a spectacle of racing unlike any other. The best of the best mixes with local talent in various categories, including super bikes, touring cars, sportscars and Formula 3.

With current winners including the likes of Felix Rosenqvist, Daniel Juncadella, António Félix da Costa, Edoardo Mortara, Rob Huff, Michael Rutter and Maro Engel, all drivers that head to Macau want to go there for the challenge, but more than that, they go for the win.

This year saw the conclusion of the inaugural FIA GT World Cup, which saw Engel and Mercedes AMG take the titles, along with young Swedish ace Felix Rosenqvist win the F3 Macau Grand Prix for the second year in a row.

With speeds approaching 270 km/h, the combination of fast sweeping corners and tight, technical turns give the ultimate challenge for anyone wishing to make an impact in racing. Think of what the likes of Senna, Hakkinen and Schumacher have achieved, as they too, made their mark in Macau.

So forget the glitz and glamour of the Mediterranean, because if you’re a real racer, you’ll head to Macau to test yourself to the absolute limit.
