It’s pretty standard these days to see the current set of Formula 1 drivers and MotoGP superstars dotted around the paddock wearing the latest model of Oakley, Rudy Project, Ray Ban and just about every other brand of sunglasses as they prepare for their upcoming race.

Well unsurprisingly they didn’t invent the idea of wearing super shades to block out the sun, the gaze of the general public and paparazzi. Sponsorship deals were very much in full swing back in the day, with Jackie Stewart famously having his shirts tailored with one arm shorter than the other to show off his Rolex watch.
