Marking two momentous milestones in its Motorad history; 90 years of BMW Motorrad – and 40 years of a BMW Motorrad design icon, BMW and customer bike company Roland Sands Design, have teamed up to create an exclusive homage to the BMW R 90: The BMW Concept 90.

One of the fastest production bikes of it time, the original BMW R 90 S had a top speed of just under 125mph and was the first BMW motorcycle to by styled by a designer.

According to Edgar Heinrich, Head of BMW Motorrad Design: “The BMW R 90 S goes back to a time when motorcyclists were regarded as social outlaws. There was something rebellious about them – they were fast, noisy and wild. It was all about pure emotion. And it remains fascinating to this day.”

“The biggest challenge was we needed to convince Roland Sands to do this project for us”

Clearly taking its style and lines from the original, the new BMW Concept 90 has all its custom parts made by Roland Sands Design. Even the color is homage to the now classic original, with a hard-hitting orange divided horizontally by the black chassis sections and engine. The mix between old classic and new technology is clear to see with its clean and classic body styling, coupled with the best new technology and components.

“The aim of the BMW Concept Ninety is to show how reduced and pure an emotional BMW motorcycle can be,” explains Ola Stenegard, Head of BMW Motorrad Vehicle Design. “This bike is about heart and Soul. This bike is all about emotion.”
